TWICE’s MISAMO launched a retro visual aesthetic music video for ‘New Look’ on October 9 at 12 MN JST (October 8, 11 PM Philippine Time). The track is a pre-release single ahead of their mini album, Haute Couture.
MISAMO is TWICE’s Japan sub-unit, featuring members Mina, Sana, and Momo. They are releasing their second mini album on November 6, 2024.
The music video takes place in studios from two different eras—16 years ago and 2024—showcasing nostalgia for the characters MISAMO portrays. It implicitly affirms women's empowerment, highlighting that women today can take on leadership roles as compared to the past. The story also explores MISAMO’s love for fashion, which prompted them to pursue a profession in the field.
As visually appealing as it is, the timeline got us in a bit of a loop. The filming set features vintage equipment from 16 years ago indicating a setting in 2008. We have one question to ask: do filming sets still use ‘80s to ‘90s equipment in 2008?
Regardless, the loophole doesn’t detract from the story and meaning the music video conveys. It’s also impressive how it subtly suggests that women express themselves through fashion and only dress for their satisfaction.
