Recently, it was reported that BSS will be back with new music next year. If you're new to SEVENTEEN, you might be wondering about who they are and why Carats are hyping up the highly anticipated comeback. Well, worry no more, as I am here to guide you on your new fave subunit in Kpop!
BSS also known as BooSeokSoon is a subunit of SEVENTEEN with members Seungkwan, DK, and Hoshi. The name of the group is derived from their names, Boo Seungkwan, Lee Seokmin, and Kwon Soonyoung. The group started as a fun trio and later on became one of the solid groups and subunits in SEVENTEEN. BSS debuted in 2018 with their first digital single, ‘Just Do It’ with DK being the group's assigned leader. With members being immensely talented and funny at the same time, the group successfully made waves in the industry by dominating charts left and right. From doing gags and skits as a trio to receiving awards, making the soundtrack for a highly popular Korean drama, and performing in music festivals.
Last year, BSS finally released their very first single album called ‘SECOND WIND’. The album was composed of three tracks: Fighting, which featured the talented soloist and rapper, Lee Youngji, Lunch, and 7PM which featured the Norwegian singer-songwriter Peder Elias. If you love their debut song, which is ‘Just Do It’, then you'll absolutely love ‘Fighting' as both songs exude fun and energetic vibes. One ‘paiting haeyaji’ and a mix of ‘don't give it up, never give it up, yeah’ will surely cheer and motivate you for the rest of your week. If you want to spice up your lunch break or to lessen the drowsiness effect after eating your lunch, then you should tune in to ‘Lunch’. From the title itself, who doesn't want a ‘did you enjoy the meal, my dear?’ after a hearty and full meal? And if you just want a chill and comforting night while watching the stars or maybe with a good cup of milk after a long and dreading day of school and work, then you will definitely love ‘7PM’. BSS surely captured all of our feelings and made sure that we will all have a soundtrack at any time of our day.
All these songs became a huge hit, especially ‘Fighting’ as the song also earned the title of being one of the most streamed songs on Melon, a music streaming platform in Korea, during that year and up until today. The group also won and took plenty of trophies and nominations from music show broadcasts and Melon Music Awards. Not only that, ‘Fighting' and its massive achievement didn't stop there, as it was also chosen as the official cheering song for Team Korea during the 2024 Paris Olympics, making both BSS and the fandom proud of this huge success. Aside from achieving success with their first album, the group also sang the OST of the globally popular Korean drama ‘Queen of Tears’. The group earned their very first soundtrack award with ‘The Reasons of My Smiles’, winning the Outstanding Korean Drama OST Award.
BSS has already solidified their career as a subunit, and it is safe to say that they are not only dominating the idol group scene, but they also captured the hearts of K-drama audiences. While we are waiting for their new music, let's just vibe with their current songs and prepare ourselves to be fascinated by DK, Seungkwan, and Hoshi again in 2025 because where can we get our daily dose of happiness if not from them?
I have been a K-pop fan since 2013. The first group who introduced me to K-pop and fangirling was EXO. My current ult is SEVENTEEN and Joshua is my bias. I've been a CARAT since 2020, and I would say that it was and is still the best decision I have ever made. I have so much opinion towards things, and because of that, I discovered that writing those thoughts might be the best way to express myself. To be able to write articles about the things that I love is one of the best crossovers of my life.
