You can take Sunghoon out of the skating rink, but you cannot take the skater out of Sunghoon.

For those of you who don’t know—though of course, you likely do—Sunghoon is a former reserve member of Korea’s national figure skating team. He won two international advanced novice competitions during the 2015-2016 season: the Asian Figure Skating Trophy and the Lombardia Trophy.

With his background as a national-level figure skater, Sunghoon’s appointment is all the more meaningful as he reconnects with his roots in sports.

According to reports, Sunghoon pledged to engage in activities that promote interest in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, encourage recreational sports and empasize their importance, and help deliver sports policy messages.

In his speech, Sunghoon shared, “I am honored to be able to serve as the PR ambassador for the Korea Sports Council. Figure skating was a turning point in my life. I think the challenging spirit and focus I gained from my experience as a member of the national team’s reserve force have become the nutrients that have made me who I am today.”

He also reflected on the similarities between sports and his current role as a K-pop Idol. Sunghoon stated, “Although they are different fields, I think K-pop and sports share core values because they always do their best and have fans who cheer them on."

ENHYPEN is gearing up for their new mini album set to drop June 5th, “DESIRE : UNLEASH”.
