No one does it like JENNIE!
On Friday, March 7, JENNIE of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK released her solo album “Ruby” alongside the music video for like JENNIE.
JENNIE is the last BLACKPINK member—following Rosé, Jisoo, and Lisa—to release a solo album after the group’s decision to pursue both solo and group activities in the upcoming year.
Like JENNIE highlights her rapping abilities that make up the whole song. Ruby, the album, also explores JENNIE’s artistic evolution, blending genres like hip-hop, R&B, and electronic beats while collaborating with renowned artists to create a dynamic listening experience. With Ruby, JENNIE solidifies her place as a solo artist beyond just being a member of BLACKPINK. The album not only highlights her strengths but also pushes boundaries, proving that she is willing to experiment and evolve with her sound.
However, when the album’s tracklist was first revealed, JENNIE also faced criticism on social media. Some fans expressed disappointment, claiming that Ruby seemed to be tailored for Western validation rather than embracing her K-pop roots.

The music video features JENNIE’s striking visuals and Afro-inspired choreography performed with a mega crew, perfectly matching the track’s rhythm and energy. A mega crew typically consists of 15 to 40 dancers, and this large ensemble played a crucial role in bringing the video’s concept to life, enhancing the impact of the choreography. The popular South Korean dance crew WEDEMBOYZ reportedly contributed to both the direction of the video and the choreography.
While the visuals, music, and choreography were all spot on, can we agree that the capybara at the end stole the show? It’s a fun nod to JENNIE’s solo fandom name and her favorite animal, making the video even more personal and memorable.

With all these elements in play, we can’t help but wonder—is like JENNIE her most iconic solo drop yet? What are your thoughts, bepeu?
